In short
Lighter is a breathing light for closed eyes. The glow rises as you breathe in and falls as you breathe out, so your attention has somewhere to rest when being still feels like too much. It comes from Lumaria Labs, a one-person studio in Gothenburg, and launches on 1 December for iPhone and Apple Watch.
Embargo: Tuesday 1 December 2026, 08:00 CET. Review codes and TestFlight access are available before then.

What it does
- Breathe. Close your eyes and follow the light. Six rhythms with names people know (Wind-down 4·6, Coherent, Slow 4·8, Sighing, Box, 4-7-8) or your own timing, with a soft chime at each turn of the breath.
- Sleep. A glow that winds down with you and fades out on its own, with ocean waves or brown, pink or white noise.
- Apple Watch. A quiet tap on the wrist at each turn of the breath, in step with the light on the phone. With the screen off and the sound off, only the taps remain, so a partner can sleep on.
- Patterns. Heart rate during each session from Apple Health, sessions side by side with how they felt. Patterns to notice, never scores.
- Calm by design. No account, no ads, no streaks. Sessions are saved as Mindful Minutes. VoiceOver and Reduce Motion on iPhone and Watch.
Lighter is a wellness app for breathing, relaxation, meditation and winding down. It is not a medical device. See intended purpose.
The story
Most breathing apps ask you to watch a screen or turn inward and focus on your body. Lighter does neither: you close your eyes and follow a light, so your attention has somewhere outside yourself to rest.
“Part art, part guiding light. Lighter connects you to your breath in a gentle way, for bedtime and relaxation or enhanced meditation. Designed in Sweden, where winter is long and light is precious.”Jennifer Wiklund, founder of Lumaria Labs
Lighter launches on 1 December, as the darkest weeks begin, with events for the winter solstice and the New Year to follow.
